The Zurich Chamber Singers

What's more to say about this...? In the bleak midwinter by Gustav Holst, definitely one of the most beautiful carols in the world.

Looking back on this extraordinary and challenging year, we are more than humbled to have been given the opportunity to record and release our album O nata lux. We would like to thank everyone involved in this most exciting journey: All our singers, our Artistic Director Christian Erny, our Management team Manu Signer, David Gurtner and Severin Hosang, our audio engineer Raphaël Jecker, the whole team at Berlin Classics, Maximilian Sieghardt, Marcus Heinicke, Krystian Nowakowski NO-TE, Büro für Künstler - Hasko Witte GmbH.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of you, for all the support we received throughout the year in all different ways, for your kind feedbacks - online, in streaming and sales numbers, reviews and personal reflections. More convinced than ever to pursue our goals, we will be back next year with exciting new projects and are looking forward to working with all of you in the years to come.

So from all of us at The Zurich Chamber Singers, we wish you a merry Christmas, stay safe and healthy, and a happy New Year.

It is Holy Night, and as a climax to our Album O nata lux, we now proudly present the mighty, magnificent Magnificat by Hieronymus Praetorius. A majestic piece for double choir. What's not to miss? It is enriched with German Christmas carols, such as in dulci jubilo or Joseph lieber Joseph mein. Enjoy this stellar piece - Holy Night provides the perfect occasion.

As a counterwork to the setting by Victoria, Christian Erny and all of us are super excited to present the premier recording of O magnum mysterium by the Norwegian composer Marcus Paus. The marimba part is played on our recording by David Gurtner, who we all would like to congratulate on what we think is a fantastic performance. Dive now into this amazing, 10-minute piece, that covers all emotions, from soft and tender to extremely dramatic.

With O magnum mysterium, we arrive at the second central text of the album. As with O nata lux, we present it in two different setting from two different times. We start with the famous setting of Victoria, this most beautiful example of renaissance counterpount. Learn more about it from @Christian Erny - and get into the Christmas mood by listening to it on Spotify 🙂
